The Research Institute for Textile Chemistry in Žilina was established on the base of Decision of the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Socialist Republic with effect from 1 March 1970. This way branch structure of the research institutes for the field of textile and clothing industry in connection with chemical and fibre industry has been replenished in Slovakia. In 1994 it was, as one of the first industrial institutes, privatised by the company VÚTCH-CHEMITEX, spol. s r.o. composed of the own employees and subsequently it continued its activities on the base of the original business objectives. The institute has been operating already for 50 years in the field of industrial applied research focusing mainly on research, development and innovation of the assortment of technical, home and other textiles with emphasis on application of advanced technologies for textile finishing and special finishes. Over the past 10 years nanotechnologies, low-temperature plasma in atmosphere, textile multifunctional finishes are being applied preferentially and especially assortment of smart textiles is being elaborated. The state-authorised testing laboratory SKTC-119 for textiles, clothing and a part of assortment of consumer chemistry is established in the institute since 1993. Four testing laboratories are accredited according to the standard EN ISO/IEC 17025: 2017 and the certificates are issued by the certification body accredited according to the standard EN ISO/IEC 17065: 2012. The company VÚTCH-CHEMITEX, spol. s r.o. is the Notified Body No. 1296 for testing, certification and conformity assessment of personal protective equipment according to the Regulation of the European Parliament and Council (EU) 2016/425 and toys. Since 1999 we have been a co-opted member and after that in 2013 we became an associated member of the International OEKO-TEX® Association for research and testing in the field of textile and leather ecology with the authorization to perform tests and issue certificates according to the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®. Whole range of the business activites is covered by a certificate for Quality Management System according to the standard STN EN ISO 9001: 2016.
